Job Summary

The Senior Manager, Patient Content and Storytelling, plays a key role in developing patient content and ensuring that all content and storytelling deliverables contain compelling, authentic, and scientifically sound content, consistent with strategy, brand, and industry guidelines.  

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Partnering with Account Managers, Strategy and Insights team members, and Patient Relationship Managers, and contributing to content deliverables such as patient/caregiver foundational stories, program discussion guides, video scripts/assets, social content, digital and print patient education materials, disease state educational campaign messaging and assets, etc.
  • Contributing to any of the various types of content the Patient Engagement team is called upon to create, including content in a consultancy, communications, or nonprofit environment, as well as other professional healthcare modes (e.g. MedAffairs/Publications/Promotional medical content). 
  • Working alongside the Patient Engagement Content and Storytelling team to develop client deliverables, meeting client briefs, compliance, and geographical relevance requirements.
  • Interviewing patients, caregivers, and subject-matter experts to develop into stories and authentic content for film and print.
  • Writing and editing long- and short-form copy, as well as modifying content to maximize reach and engagement across all platforms.
  • Creating captivating, informative, accurate, compliant, and strategic content as appropriate for each target audience.
  • Cultivating and nurturing a passionate interest in health science and the use of written content to facilitate the communication of complex scientific information to diverse audiences that engage, educate, inform, and empower patients and their communities.
  • Working with senior content team leaders to continuously improve the quality of your work to ensure it aligns with assignments, meets deadlines, follows OPEN Health style, etc.
  • Contribute to/work alongside multimedia designers to produce supporting material for video assets including discussion guides, b-roll lists for pre-production, and scripts from video shoots in post-production, as well as attending in-person video shoots as needed and conducting interviews with patients and caregivers.
  • Adhering to the OPEN Health style guide.
  • Editing and proofreading content relevant to assigned accounts and book of business.
  • Attending client meetings and medical/legal review meetings as needed.
  • Contributing to new business development activities, including supporting the account teams to identify new content opportunities within existing accounts and supporting pitches conducted by senior members of the PE team, as needed.

Experience, Skills, and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or master's degree, preferably in marketing, journalism, health communication, or public health with a concentration in writing
  • 4-6 years of experience writing medical communication, patient stories, or other patient-focused content for a fast-paced company
  • Previous patient engagement experience with a biopharmaceutical company or patient engagement agency preferred
  • Strong writing, editing, researching, and proofreading skills
  • Basic understanding of legal and regulatory environment in pharmaceutical promotions, pharma industry guidelines, and other compliance-related issues
  • An empathic, compassionate communication style
  • Must be empathetic, detail-oriented, and capable of juggling multiple projects
  • Ability to adhere to tight project timelines and work cooperatively with different key players
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a multi-disciplinary project team
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail
  • Superior communication skills (both written and verbal) and a proven ability to communicate effectively
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and Zoom)
