Senior Copywriter - Healthcare Advertising

Reports to Head of Copy

Job Summary

Senior Copywriter is responsible for having an in-depth understanding of the science behind brands and can effortlessly translate clinical data into accurate, engaging, and creative copy. They have the ability and willingness to think innovatively and creatively, and to be adaptable and flexible according to client needs. Senior Copywriter proactively takes responsibility for the day-to-day delivery of assigned writing and referencing tasks while collaborating with internal teams and external collaborators.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Gaining an in-depth understanding of the science and strategy behind allocated brands and disease areas to become the ‘Brand Guardian’
  • Excel at communicating complex scientific ideas in a clear, accurate, and innovative way
  • Working closely with the team to provide innovative creative solutions that are on brief and strategic
  • Writing scientifically accurate, fully referenced materials (and ABPI compliant, when applicable) appropriate to the target audience
  • Providing mentoring/training to junior or newly hired writers 
  • Delivering copy that has been properly reviewed for accuracy, grammar, spelling and punctuation
  • Reviewing the work of other members of the copy team and providing insightful feedback
  • Convincingly presenting your work and ideas, both internally and externally
  • Proactively taking responsibility for the day-to-day delivery of assigned writing and referencing tasks
  • Managing and flagging to team members if there are any unforeseen delays or challenges related to delivery
  • Presenting at pitches and client meetings
  • Liaising with clients (email, video and face-to-face) and developing good working relationships with clients and medical teams
  • Having a ‘voice’ and input in meetings; clearly demonstrating your strategic and brand knowledge
  • Driving organic new business opportunities with proactive suggestions for creative solutions for assigned brands
  • Working independently to incorporate revisions and address reviewer questions/comments
  • Understanding expectations regarding budgeted hours and deadlines, and communicating with team about these as needed

Experience, Skills, and Qualifications

  • A science background in life sciences or related degree
  • Experience as a Copywriter in a health advertising agency, medical communications agency or pharma environment
  • A strong scientific understanding and excellent writing skills
  • Familiarity with pharma, savvy with science and pharma guidelines
  • An ability to show a range of creative and digital thinking
  • Genuine motivation to work in the pharmaceutical marketing and healthcare environment and make people’s lives healthier
  • Flair for managing multiple competing priorities with an ability to delegate, prioritize, problem solve, and set expectations
  • Think scientifically, conceptually and strategically to develop award-winning ideas
  • Have high standards and relish working with similarly talented people
  • Proficiency with PubMed searches and MS365 including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams, including figure and table development
