Job Summary
The SVP, Growth Strategy & Business Development is a strategic and commercial leader responsible for driving the growth of OPEN Health’s Global Medical Affairs and Communications practice. This leader combines deep scientific and strategic understanding, market insight, and client credibility to convert opportunities into wins—ensuring every proposal and pitch represents the best of OPEN Health’s strategic, creative, and scientific excellence.
The SVP, Growth Strategy & Business Development is responsible for shaping the growth strategy for the Global Medical Affairs and Communications practice area in collaboration with Executive leadership, leading the pursuit of new business opportunities, and overseeing the development of high-impact proposals that reflect our value and differentiation. A core mandate is to accelerate growth, which includes, but is not limited to, expanding relationships within existing clients across new capabilities, therapy areas, and geographies, while also cultivating new client opportunities and reinforcing our position as a trusted partner in advancing medical science and communication.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Strategic Growth Leadership
- Lead the development and execution of the Global Medical Affairs and Communications growth strategy in collaboration with Executive leadership, identifying where and how OPEN Health can differentiate and expand.
- Define and evolve the practice’s market positioning in alignment with broader organizational strategy and client needs.
- Partner with other leaders within the Global Medical Affairs and Communications practice, leadership across the organization, and OPEN Health Group business development partners to develop and implement actionable account plans, focusing on growth expansion within Medical Affairs (capability, asset, and buyer growth).
- Integrate market and competitive insights to anticipate emerging client priorities and inform investment in future capabilities.
Business Development Execution
- Own and drive the business development plan with accountability for pipeline quality, conversion, and overall revenue performance.
- Lead all major RFPs and proposal development, ensuring every submission is strategically sharp, visually compelling, and commercially sound.
- Shape the win strategy for high-value pursuits, from initial engagement through final presentation.
- Represent OPEN Health externally as a thought leader and industry ambassador, raising the visibility of our Global Medical Affairs capability.
- Coach cross-functional teams to elevate strategic storytelling, pricing discipline, and creative impact across all deliverables.
Client Engagement & Market Development
- Build and deepen senior-level client relationships within Medical Affairs and adjacent functions, serving as a trusted advisor and consultative partner.
- Represent OPEN Health at industry events (e.g., MAPS, ISMPP), helping shape market dialogue and drive visibility for our thought leadership.
- Partner with colleagues across OPEN Health (Market Access, Patient Engagement, Commercial Strategy) to create integrated solutions that deliver measurable client impact.
- Proactively unlock new business within existing clients by identifying and activating white-space opportunities.
Operational Excellence & Collaboration
- Drive accountability for CRM discipline, pipeline reporting, and forecasting in partnership with Growth Operations.
- Partner with Marketing to align campaigns, thought leadership, and content with targeted growth priorities.
- Ensure that proposal and pitch processes are efficient, collaborative, and consistently reflect a “One OPEN Health” approach.
- Collaborate with Finance and Operations to ensure that growth strategies are sustainable and profitable.
Experience, Skills, and Qualifications
- Extensive SVP or VP level experience in Medical Affairs or Medical/Scientific Communications with demonstrated success in business development and strategic growth.
- Proven record of leading complex pursuits and converting opportunities through decisive proposal leadership.
- Strong business and commercial acumen, with demonstrated impact on growth, client acquisition, and long-term partnerships.
- Deep understanding of Medical Affairs functions—publications, evidence strategy, scientific engagement, and communications.
- Strategic and entrepreneurial thinker with excellent collaboration and team leadership skills.
- Superior written, verbal, and presentation skills; ability to translate science and strategy into compelling client narratives.
- Experience driving CRM discipline, data-driven pipeline management, and cross-functional alignment.
- Comfort with fast-paced, growth-oriented environments and high accountability.
Travel Requirements
- Up to 30%, including international travel.
