IT Operations & Cloud Engineer

Location: Remote Canada, UK or US- Working hours US EDT/EST

Job Summary

OPEN Health is seeking an IT Operations & Cloud Engineer to act as a cross-functional technical expert within our IT team. This is a hands-on role that operates above our Managed Service Provider, taking ownership of complex issues, driving improvements, and ensuring the stability and security of our Microsoft ecosystem.

You will work across IT operations, cloud engineering, and security, with a strong focus on Microsoft 365 and Azure. This role requires someone who is comfortable working independently, making informed decisions, and owning outcomes across a global environment.

Why this role

This is a high-visibility, high-autonomy role within a growing global healthcare company. You will have genuine ownership of the Microsoft platform, work directly with leadership, and shape how IT operations scale across regions.

If you thrive at the intersection of cloud engineering, security, and business enablement, and you want to do more than just close tickets, this role is for you.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Managing day-to-day administration of Microsoft 365 including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, OneDrive, and Intune
  • Overseeing Azure tenant configuration, resource governance, and subscription hygiene
  • Monitoring and optimizing Azure spend through cost controls, right-sizing, and reserved instance
  • Leading SharePoint governance, site architecture standards, and permission models
  • Maintaining and enhancing Microsoft Intune device management policies across platforms
  • Supporting cloud environments across Azure, with familiarity in AWS as a plus
  • Serving as the internal escalation point above MSP L1 and L2 for complex or recurring issues
  • Handling break-fix support, onboarding and offboarding, and access management independently
  • Triaging and resolving tickets outside MSP scope or SLA requirements
  • Documenting resolution patterns and contributing to knowledge base development
  • Administering Microsoft Defender suite including Endpoint, 365, and Identity, and responding to security alerts
  • Managing Conditional Access policies, MFA enforcement, and Zero Trust controls within Entra ID
  • Coordinating with MSP CSOC for incident response and threat escalation
  • Supporting vulnerability management, patching compliance, and security posture reviews
  • Assisting with audit readiness, data governance, compliance frameworks, and IT assessments
  • Managing hybrid and cloud-native infrastructure including DNS, identity, and basic networking
  • Supporting infrastructure automation using PowerShell, Azure CLI, or similar tools
  • Participating in change management, system patching, and platform upgrades
  • Maintaining accurate documentation of systems, configurations, and network topology

Experience, Skills, and Qualifications

Required:

  • 3 to 6 years of hands-on experience in IT operations or cloud engineering roles
  • Strong experience administering Microsoft 365 across the full suite
  • Practical experience with Azure including cost management, identity and access management, and resource administration
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Defender, Conditional Access, and Entra ID
  • Experience working alongside or managing a Managed Service Provider relationship
  • Proficiency in PowerShell for scripting and automation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document clearly and escalate effectively
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision across time zones

Preferred:

  • Microsoft certifications such as MS-102, AZ-104, SC-300, or equivalent
  • Experience with SharePoint governance, Viva, or Power Platform
  • Familiarity with Azure Cost Management, FinOps practices, or licensing optimization models
  • Exposure to ITSM platforms such as ServiceNow, Freshservice, or Jira Service Management
  • Experience within healthcare, life sciences, or other regulated environments
  • Experience supporting global or multi-region environments
