Account Manager

- Reports to AD/AVP/VP/SVP/EVP, Client Services 

Job Summary

Account Managers oversee project management for one or more accounts; participate in the development, execution and delivery of publication planning and medical affairs tactics; establish ongoing collaboration with designated account team leaders to define client commitments, expectations, and project budgets; and advise and assist the project team with daily oversight including prioritization of all projects to ensure high-quality, on-time, on-budget performance.

Account Managers direct assigned account team members to ensure that all activities and documents meet timeline, financial, and quality objectives and commitments. This requires an ability to manage multiple projects, monitor deadlines, prioritize work, evaluate the cost-effectiveness and productivity of team performance, and identify, analyze, and adjust work procedures and relationships to maximize efficiency.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The Account Manager is responsible for leading assigned client accounts (publication or medical affairs focused). Responsibilities include:

  • Serve as client and internal lead (in absence of assigned AD), ensuring work is meeting client expectations and lead meetings as appropriate
    • Have solid understanding of client SOPs, preferences, and database management systems, as appropriate
  • Cultivate relationships with clients, with a focus on successful delivery on assigned work and providing excellent customer service
  • Financial accountability of assigned accounts to ensure profitability (in absence of AD)
    • Manage or assist with SOW development, forecasting, invoicing, and potential overages
  • Mentoring and coaching of project managers or project coordinators, as applicable
    • Coordinating out of office coverage with team, as applicable
  • Able to manage day-to-day project tasks as well as delegate appropriately to project manager or project coordinator to ensure timelines are kept and quality deliverables achieved
  • Have a basic understanding of assigned account therapeutic area/product

Experience, Skills, and Qualifications

  • BA or BS in marketing, communications, biology, life sciences, or related field (candidates with CMPP certification is a plus)
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with pharmaceutical marketing, publication planning, medical affairs, promotional medical education, or account responsibility in a medical communications or health-related organization
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple accounts in compliance with internal and industry policies
  • Strong written/verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team matrix structure
  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment while maintaining a "can-do" attitude and a strong sense of ownership, pride, and accountability
  • Ease with managing finances
  • Knowledge of industry guidelines (GPP, ICMJE, etc)
  • Proficiency in MS365 including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams. Experience with Sharepoint, Salesforce, SAP, iEnvision, and Veeva Vault is a plus

Travel Requirements

  • ≤ 20% potential US or global travel
